Cancer Survivors Against Radon Rally At State Capitol ? CBS Denver

DENVER (CBS4) ? Radon gas in homes is a common problem in parts of Colorado, and in the ongoing effort to spread the word, the group Cancer Survivors Against Radon held a rally at the state Capitol on Wednesday.

The goal was raising awareness about the colorless, tasteless, odorless gas that collects inside homes and buildings.

Activists in the group say radon can be prevented.

?You should test every couple of years. If you do have a problem, it?s very simple and really inexpensive, especially at the cost of lives, to go ahead and mitigate for this situation,? a speaker at the rally said.

Radon becomes a bigger issue in the fall and winter when more people keep their windows closed, trapping gas inside homes.

Health experts say radon is a major cause of lung cancer, second only to smoking.
